Things to do at Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove is a limestone arch cut through a headland at Te Whanganui-A-Hei, on the Coromandel Peninsula, about 3 hours' drive from Rotorua. 5 km one way, about an hour each way, and drops steeply to the beach at the end - storm damage has closed sections more than once in recent years, so check the DOC website or the Hahei i-SITE before you drive out, rather than assuming the path is open.

Kayak tours from Hahei Beach reach the cove from the water in under an hour and let you paddle into the arch itself, which the walking track does not. Boat cruises from Whitianga run past the cove and nearby blowhole without any walking at all. There's no vehicle access and no cafe at the cove; bring water, because there's none on the track.
