Things to do at Te Puia

Te Puia is the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute, set inside the Whakarewarewa geothermal valley a few minutes from central Rotorua.

The site's main draw is Pōhutu, the most reliable geyser in the southern hemisphere, erupting once or twice an hour to heights of around 20 to 30 metres; there's no fixed schedule, so allow at least an hour on site to catch it.

Daytime visits (Te Rā) run through carving and weaving schools, kiwi conservation enclosures and the thermal terraces; evening visits (Te Pō) add a cultural performance and a hāngī meal cooked in the earth ovens. Adult day tickets sit roughly in the NZD 65-75 range, with combined Te Pō evening packages closer to NZD 140-160 per person.
